Wet weather weekend

I just about managed to prise myself out of bed this morning to get Sibs ready
for violin ensemble that started at 7am.
(What kind of a time is that to start school when you're nine....and on a Monday morning?)

Sibs is oblivious to mornings and can switch from asleep to wide awake in a nano second!
Let's just say I am not at my best in the mornings and when you couple that with the Australian Open men's final that went on until almost 1am, I was most definitely not at my best this morning.

Anyhow, once I'm up, I'm up, so might as well make the most of the day.

We had another wet weekend here and spent the day indoors on Saturday.
By Sunday mid-morning cabin fever had set in so we decided to brave the elements and venture out.
It was on with the rain coats and wellies and then this is what greeted us around the corner...

It looks like a bit of surface water collected on the road - however, this is at least waist high and fast flowing!

Again, this water is deceptive and when Neil waded through it was knee high and quite powerful.
Sibs and I decided that it was best to walk the long way around...

Everything is growing at a crazy pace with all the rain. Unfortunately that includes all the weeds!
This bamboo is slowly being surrounded by water but is holding its ground.

We managed a short walk, but after a while decided to give it up and came home.

Even the local wildlife looked displeased with the rain.

So we got out of our wet clothes, chose a family movie ,battened down the hatches,
and made a good old Sunday roast.

I'm off to Ikea this morning.
I couldn't find my list earlier and Neil swears that he didn't throw it away!
I might need a boat to get there at this rate!

Have a great week,

  2. This weather is just ridiculous isn't it? I love how you snuggled together and had a Sunday roast after your walk. It really is the only thing to do when it is so wet and miserable. xx

  3. 7am is crazy talk for a school activity! Crazy!
Wow, you have had a lot of rain. I think it's a bit deceptive, best be very careful near it, like you were.
Enjoy your trip to Ikea. I have to plan a quick visit to the mainland so I can pop into Ikea. Us Tasmanians are so jealous of you mainlanders who can drive to Ikea!

  5. Beth, hubby rang me on his way to Wales last night...it was snowing not far inland from Aberaeron...we are hoping he doesn't get stuck as we're flying out to Oz on Thursday night!! We've been waiting for snow all winter...and now we'll probably get it when we don't want it and get stuck sitting around Heathrow...fingers crossed! Robx

  6. I cannot believe the weather... sounds like you had a lovely weekend in any case.

Oh Ikea, I hate the crowds but love their stuff. Nearly our whole NYC apartment is furnished from there but I'm slightly traumatised by the experience!

Hope you have a great week!

  7. We actually hav'nt had rain this weekend, praise the lord!! It was actually stunning on Saturday morning,Crisp blue sky, a fall of snow making everything sparkle and all three peaks never looked better. Hope your water levels are kept at bay and get no where near as bad as last year. Your Sunday sounded lovely, I cleaned cars and chicken sheds, would much rather of been sat by roaring fire with good film!! Much love Al & Wendy, soon to be granny for a third time!? xxxx

  9. I'm not a morning person either Beth and used to loathe my daughter's 7.30am school band practice. Actually I suspect she did as well!
This humidity and rain has brought several giant black ants into our bathrooms and I'm not impressed.

  10. Hope you are staying
    high and dry, Beth!
    A movie and a cuddle
    IS always the go-to
    activity of choice for
    me when we are faced
    with inclement weather.
    Wonder what you watched?

    Happy Day,
    xx Suzanne
