'The sound of silence'

Can you hear that? the sound of silence.

I'm having a night in.
One of my favourite candles is burning and there's a magazine still in it's plastic wrap waiting.

Look, there's even a glass of wine and some Swiss chocs (thank you sis in law).

This last month has been a bit full on. Routine has gone out of the window - in a good way.

So tonight, Sibs, Neil, cousin and uncle have gone out to watch the Reds rugby and I am staying in.

I have the rugby match on the TV, (just in case I spot them in the crowd) but without the volume.

I have loved having a full house this last month.
Just catching up with news from home, drinking lots of coffee, doing everyday things with my mum.
As special as it was, tonight is mine...

A long time ago, as part of my  training for what I now do to earn a living, I learnt to use the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. This is a psychometric questionnaire for personality assessment. I wasn't surprised to learn that my attitude preference is 'introversion'. Basically, this means that I recharge and re-energise by preferring to spend time alone. The opposite attitude is 'extroversion' and this would be an individual who needs to be with others to feel energised. (This is a much simplified explanation, but gives you an idea).

Are you thinking about your preference?

So this evening I will embrace my introversion,
enjoy the silence and stillness
and get ready to face tomorrow.

  1. Sounds perfect Beth. Your space there looks so calm and peaceful. Marjorie (my vicar aunty who married us)used Myers briggs test on us as prepearation for marriage, very interesting!! She coming to stay next weekend. Enjoy yout "me time" and the rest of weekend Lots of love Wend xxx

  2. Looks like a perfect night in to me Beth, especially after all the socialsinig and activity.

I must be like you I think - re-energised by being alone for sure!

    Have a great weekend!

    Gill xx

  3. I used to love a night in to myself. Now with an empty nest and a husband who has to travel the world with his job I find that you can get too much of a good thing!

I hope you enjoyed your evening in.

  4. Sounds like your night in was bliss Beth. It's not often that I am home alone but when I am I indulge in candles, music and a glass of bubbly too :)

  5. Love these photos Beth and am feeling quite serene just looking at them now. Pity I have to jump up soon and throw a roast in the oven. I am definitely the introversion type and enjoy my own company immensely. I like having the house to myself to potter about at my own pace and I also appreciate silence.
Hope your evening was pure bliss.

  6. Lovely photos Beth. I love being alone but also socialising, so I guess I'm an introvert and an extrovert!!

  7. Even as I read the post I began to feel calm and peaceful myself, hope it worked and you feel energised Beth.

  8. Hi Beth

I spot that beautiful Waterford crystal wineglass. Like you, I love company and have many friends but I really need time alone and solitude. Today was such a day for me. I did paint but read and took a leisurely nap, as my husband golfed and my dog slept.

    Wishing you a great week

    Helen xx

  9. Lucky you! It looks like a wonderful night in, I love getting a bit of quiet to myself! Happy week! X

  10. Hope your night in went as planned :-)

  11. I believe I came up
    as an extrovert, but in
    reality, I think I really
    need both -- like air
    AND water : ). Hope
    it was soothing to your
    spirit, Beth!

    xx Suzanne
